The event for the anniversary of the bombardment of the Revoloutionary Camp of Akrotiri was held in Akrotiri of Hania, on Sunday, February 24th, 2007.
The first part of the event (Statue of Spyros Kagiales, Venizeos' Tombs) comprised a commemorative ceremony, commemoration of the victims, wreath laying, one moment of silence and the Cretan and National Anthems.
The second part was held at the Lyceum of Akrotiri.
The main speaker was the Secretary General of the Region of Crete Serafim Tsokas.
Introductory speeches were given by the Mayor of Akrotiri, Mihalis Kinigos and the CEO of the Foundation, Nikolaos Emm. Papadakis.
During the event, prizes were awarded to the students of the Schools of Akrotiri who were distinguished for their essays about the anniversary. Vagelis Kakatsakis recited a poem he wrote, entitled "To Spyros Kagiales" and the Cultural Association of Hordaki "Skloka" presented Cretan traditional songs and Cretan traditional dances accompanied by the choir of the Theodoropoulos Schools. A photograph exhibition with the subject "Newspapers of 1897 and other photographic documentaries" (Archive of the Foundation) was also organised at the site of the event. Finally, a historical DVD produced by the Lyceum of Akrotiri was projected.
