25 Jul The opera “Eleftherios Venizelos” in Hania
The modern opera “Eleftherios Venizelos,” following its tremendous success in Heraklion, is coming to Chania for a performance on Tuesday, August 26, 2023, at 21:30. The work, composed by Dimitris Maramis, is based on events from the life and work of the great politician from Crete, who left a profound mark on Greece’s recent history.
The opera will be performed on the stage of the Eastern Trench (Anatoliki Tafros) under the direction of the internationally renowned Swiss director, Guy Montavon, and the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the eminent chief musician, Myron Michailidis.
The libretto is signed by poet Sotiris Trivizas, with historical elements drawn from the biography “Eleftherios Venizelos, the man, the leader” by Nikolaos Emmanouil Papadakis (Papadis). The project is produced by the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, with the support of the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos.” The performance in Chania is organized by the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Chania, with the contribution of the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos”.
