i.  “A digital journey to Eleftherios Venizelos’ Crete” (Operational Programme CRETE 2014-2020).

The project is about the creation of a digital cultural network for contemporary Greek and European history based on Eleftherios Venizelos and his action in Crete and mainly in Chania. The project comprises a wide range of activities, such as the digitization and documentation of archival material (5.449 records, 8.724 downloads) from the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” and from Eleftherios Venizelos’ Collection of the Chania Municipal Library, as well as digital interactive applications with the use of innovative technologies


ii. “Education and New Technologies: The use of historical records, educational and museum-based actions to present the life and the era of Eleftherios Venizelos” (O.P. “Digital Plan”, Invitation 19):

The project consists of the documentation of 9.208 records belonging to the archival collections of the Historical Archives of the Benaki Museum. The collections include various categories and types of items, mainly letters, petitions, reports, newspapers, catalogs, tables and maps for the period 1886-1964. Under the same project was also held the documentation of the museum collection of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K.Venizelos” and of the personal effects of Eleftherios Venizelos, which are located at his residence in Chalepa Chania. The museum collection consists of 516 items and is divided into general categories: paintings, furniture, objects, lighting, carpets, textiles-clothing and vehicles.


iii. “Comprehensive documenation and digitization of the personal archive of Eleftherios Venizelos – projection of the digital content through the internet” (O.P. Information Society, measure 1.3, invitation 72).

The objective of the project is scientific documentation, digitalisation and projection of the personal archive of Eleftherios Venizelos. A catalogue of 8.447 records referring to important aspects of the work, era and life of the Greek statesman and covering the period from the mid 19th century to the end of the 1960s, has been documented and digitalised.
The project comprises the collection “Eleftherios Venizelos” consisting of documents, mainly of public content (correspondence of Ministries, public authorities, the Parliament, the Senate, the Provisional Government of Thessaloniki) as well as private (personal correspondence of Venizelos, his wife Elena, his son Sophocles). The trial brief for the attempted Venizelos assassination (June 1933) is significant, as well as part of the original manuscript of “Thucydides’ History translated by Eleftherios Venizelos”, including his personal comments.
For this project the Foundation was awarded the Award of Excellence and Distinction Best Practice Digital Culture project.


iv. Comprehensive documenation and digitization of the personal archive of Eleftherios Venizelos – production of a dvd-rom entitled “The Cretan State of Eleftherios Venizelos” (O.P. Information Society, measure 1.3, invitation 65).

Collaborating  Institutes: National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” – Benaki MuseumGreek Literary and Historical Archive.
The objective of the programme is the scientific documentation, digitalisation and projection of three archive units of the Personal Archive of Eleftherios Venizelos from the Greek Literary and Historical Archive and the Benaki Museum. The collaborating institutes have authorised the Foundation to digitalise and use their archive units for research and educational purposes.
The project covers 35.893  records and comprises collections of documents, graphic, photographic and cartographic material, containing Venizelos’ autographs, his correspondence, documents of the government and his associates of political and social content, newspapers, maps, lithographs/posters, postcards, photographs of the period 1880-1936.
