Memorial Event in Athens
A memorial event for the anniversary of Eleftherios Venizelos’s death was held on April 14 at his statue in Eleftherias Park on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue in Athens. The event was organized by the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” the Panhellenic Federation of Cretan Cultural Associations, and the Pancretan Union of Attica. The speaker was the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis.
Memorial for Venizelos in New York
The memory and work of Eleftherios Venizelos were honored by the Greek community in New York with a memorial service and event held in March at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Eleftherios in Manhattan.
The event was organized by the Venizelos Foundation USA (a branch of the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” in the USA) on the occasion of the anniversary of the great statesman’s death. The memorial service was conducted by the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Archimandrite Father Nektarios Papazafiropoulos, and Protopresbyter Father Nicholas Kazarian.
Greetings were given by the President of the Venizelos Foundation USA, Nikos Kastrinakis. Among those present at the event were the President of the Pancretan Association of America, Diane Kounalakis, the Vice President of the Federation of Cypriot-American Organizations of America, Nikos Pafitis, and many other representatives of expatriate organizations.
