28 Mar International Conference “Eleftherios Venizelos and Cyprus” (Nicosia Cyprus, 15-15.04.2005).
An international conference on the topic “Eleftherios Venizelos and Cyprus” was held in Nicosia (Ceremony Hall of the University of Cyprus) discussing Eleftherios Venizelos’ policy on the Cypriot issue. The conference was organised by the Foundation and the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Cyprus, with the support of the Cretan Association of Cyprus.
The conference opening was attended by the political leaders of Cyprus, the ambassador of Greece in Cyprus, important personalities from Cyprus and Greece.
The general topic was the policy of Venizelos and his governments on the Cypriot issue during the period 1910-1931. In brief, the developed topics referred to Cyprus’ position on Venizelos’ foreign policy, the reasons that lead him to certain choices, the impact of his policy in Greece and in Cyprus, the movements of venizelism and anti-venizelism created in Cyprus.
The conference was attended by professors of the Universities of Greece, Cyprus and foreign countries, historians, PhD candidates and researchers.
