Celebrating the anniversary of Crete’s Union with Greece

The documentary “For Crete and Freedom: The Road to Union”, produced by the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” will premiere on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., at the Chania Cultural Center as part of the celebrations marking the anniversary of Crete’s Union with Greece.
The documentary showcases rare archival material from the Hellenic Parliament, the “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” Foundation, and the Elias Giannakakis Collection. Script and direction are by Elias Giannakakis. The film was completed with support from the Region of Crete, Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos,” Heracles Prokopakis, Danaos Shipping Co. Ltd, and Samaria Water. The event will close with the announcement of Michael and Martina Krasakis and Georgios Kaloutsis as partners of the Foundation.
Earlier in the day, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Foundation will hold a meeting (virtually) chaired by Konstantinos Tasoulas, President of the Hellenic Parliament and President of the Foundation.
On the following morning, Sunday, December 1, 2024, the Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipality of Chania, and the “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” Foundation will host the annual event commemorating the anniversary of Crete’s Union with Greece. This will include a Divine Liturgy and Memorial Service followed by an Official Doxology at the Chania Metropolitan Cathedral. A procession to the Firkas Fortress will follow, with the keynote address delivered by Chania Mayor Panagiotis Simandirakis. Finally, visits to the Maritime Museum of Crete and Chania City Hall will take place.
