07 Feb Anniversary event in Akrotiri
An event marking the anniversary of the bombing of the Akrotiri Revolutionary Camp will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the statue of Spyros Kayiales (Tombs of Venizelos, Akrotiri, Chania). The event is organized by the Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipality of Chania, the National Research and Studies Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” the Municipal Unit of Akrotiri, and the Cultural Organizations of Akrotiri.
The first part of the ceremony will include a memorial service, a roll call of the fallen, wreath-laying, a minute of silence, and the playing of the National Anthems.
The second part will take place at Akrotiri High School and will feature welcome addresses, a speech by Ioannis Giannakakis, Deputy Mayor for Culture of the Municipality of Chania, and traditional Cretan music and dance performances by the Akrotiri Folk Dance Association “Kagiales” and the Chordaki Cultural Association “Skloka”.
