Ceremony for the unveiling of the bust of Sophocles Venizelos (Hania).

On June 21st, a ceremony for the unveiling of the bust of Sophocles Venizelos, a sculpture of Giannis Markantonakis, was held at the homonymous square of Hania and was organised by the Municipality of Hania and the Foundation.
The ceremony consisted of two parts: the first part started with a memorial service followed by the bust unveiling and wreath laying.
In continuation, the Mayor of Hania, Kiriakos Virvidakis, gave a short speech, followed by the speeches of the Metropolitan of Kydonia & Apokoronas, Irineos, and the Prefect of Hania, Giorgos Katsanevakis.
Speakers of the event were Nikolaos E. Papadakis, CEO of the Foundation, on the topic “On the first line. From the Balkan front to Proussa”, and Evanthis Hatzivasileiou, Lecturer of Modern History at the University of Athens, on the topic “Sophocles Venizelos. A political leader”.
The event closed with a short speech by the Chairman of the Foundation, Metropolitan of Kissamos & Selino, Irineos.
