08 Δεκ Akrotiri 1897: Commemorative events – Annual Award “Elena Venizelou”.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the bombardment of the Revolutionary Camp of Akrotiri, the Municipality of Akrotiri, the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” and the Cultural Associations of Akrotiri organised a commemorative event, on Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at 11:30, in Akrotiri, Hania.
The first part of the event will be held at the bust of Spyros Kagiales (Venizelos' tombs) and will comprise: commemorative ceremony, roll of honor, wreath laying, a moment of silence and the Anthem of Crete and the National Anthem will be played.
The second part will be held at the Lyceum of Akrotiri and will begin with short speeches by the organisers. The main speaker will be the Mayor of Heraklio, Giannis Kourakis.
Within the context of an educational programme of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” in cooperation with the Municipality of Akrotiri, students of the 6th grade of the 1st and 2nd primary school of Kounoupidiana will present the events of the revolution, will recite poems and sing.
The second part of the event also comprises Cretan traditional songs and dances by the Cultural Association of Hordaki “Skloka” and Cretan traditional dances by the Cultural Association “Paradosi”. An exhibition of paintings and photographs by the students of the public and private Primary Schools of Akrotiri will be held there as well.
- Annual Award “Elena Venizelou”(academic year 2007-2008)
The prize "Elena Venizelou" for the academic year 2007-2008, was awarded, in an event of grants and commendations, organised by the Association for the Diffusion of Fine Arts in Crete, at the Venizelio Conservatory of Hania, on Sunday, February 15th, to Giannis Manousoudakis, student at the school of Cretan Lyra, of the class of Dimitris Vakakis.
The Execution Committee of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos”, decided to grant 1000 euros for the annual award “Elena Venizelou”, that will be awarded to the best student (of any musical instrument) that wll be selected from the Middle and Higher Class of the Venizelian Conservatory of Hania during the three periods of study and the award ceremony will be held every February.
