A two-day event for the anniversary of the death of Eleftherios Venizelos was organised in Hania, on March 22th and 23rd, 2008.
On Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 the annual memorial service of Eleftherios and Sophocles Venizelos was held at Venizelos' Tombs, in the church of Prophitis Ilias of Hania. In the service, organised by the Municipality of Hania and the Foundation, the speaker was the Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs, Euripides Stilianidis.
Before the civil memorial service, a liturgy took place at the church of Profitis Ilias, headed by Damaskinos, the Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas.
On Saturday, March 22nd at 19:00, the annual prizes for the 6th Panhellenic Student Essay Competition for Eleftherios Venizelos were awarded at the "Stavros S. Niarhos" hall of the Metropolitan Irineos Galanakis Mansion in Halepa, under the auspices of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs.
The first prize was awarded by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, Dimitrios Platis, who gave an introductory speech.
The sponsors of the student awards and the event were the grand benefactors of the Foundation Emmanouil Emm. Mihailakis and Damaskini Emm. Mihailaki.
This year the prizes were awarded to:
1st prize, Evagelia Behlivani, “Vasiliadis” Schools, Thessaloniki
2nd prize, Natalia Kelaidi, 6th High School of Hania,
3rd prize, Chrisoula Giatagana, High School of Karpenisi.
