Commemorative event for Eleftherios Venizelos (Spata).

A commemorative event for Eleftherios Venizelos was held on Saturday, July 1st, 2006, at the Municipal Gymnasium of Spata (Attica) on the occasion of the 70 years of his death. The event was organised by the Prefecture of East Attica, the Municipality of Spata and the ten Cretan Associations of East Attica, with the support of the Foundation.
The event opened with the projection of the film by V. Maros "Eleftherios Venizelos' Greece".
The speaker was Georgios Bibas, former President of the Association of Cretan Scientists, on the topic "Eleftherios Venizelos – The politician and the man".
The programme comprised short speeches by the organisers, a photograph exhibition and sound documentaries about Eleftherios Venizelos, from the Foundation archive.
The event closed with a music programme comprising the presentation of the CD "Οι ρεμπέτες θρηνούν τον Βενιζέλο" ("Rebetes mourn for Venizelos"), released by the Foundation in a limited number of copies, including 3 rare rebetika songs of 1936, dedicated to Venizelos' death. The CD was produced by the company EMI with the funding of the grand sponsor, benefactor and associate of the Foundation, Emmanouil Mihailakis.
