On Monday, November 20th, 2006, at 11:00, the Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis inaugurated the exhibition of the wax figures of Eleftherios Venizelos, Konstantinos Karamanlis and Andreas Papandreou at the Museum "Madame Tussauds" in London. The Foundation's scientific advisor Eleni Gardika Katsiadaki represented the Foundation at the event.
In September, the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organisation ddressed the Foundation in order to collect material relating to Eleftherios Venizelos for the creation of the wax figure of Eleftherios Venizelos at the Museum “Madame Tussauds”, in London. The Ministry planned to create the wax figures of Eleftherios Venizelos, Konstantinos Karamanlis and Andreas Papandreou on the occasion of the inauguration of the international touristic exhibition "World Travel Market" in London.
The Foundation was glad to be helpful to the Ministry and sent material from its Archive -photographic, archival and cinematographic material, as well as the detailed measures of the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos at the Elena Venizelou square (Halepa) and photographic and cinematographic material representing the death masque of the Greek politician- to the Ministry in order to be delivered to the English specialists.
A representative of the Foundation was invited to meet the English specialists at he Ministry in order to discuss the final details (posture, clothes etc.) of the figure. The Museum specialists presented a wax model of Venizelos' face so as to make the final modifications.
The Museum "Madame Tussauds" was in constant communication with the Foundation until the completion of the wax figure, which will remain in the Museum's permanent exhibition.
It is worth mentioning that modern Greek history is presented through the wax figure of the prominent statesman to the numerous visitors of the Museum. The presence of the wax figure of Eleftherios Venizelos in the Museum has been a request for many years, as there were already figures of other great politicians of his time from all over the world. The wax figure of Venizelos was very successful, as the resemblance is extraordinary.
