The book is the result of a systematic, difficult and long research by the author, filling an important gap as it reveals information about the personality and work of Konstantinos Mitsotakis and about an important period of the political history of Crete. His thirty-year course and his leading role in the island's political life, his close -family and political- relationship with Eleftherios Venizelos, a relationship that influenced significantly the first steps of the politician, imposed the publication of this book.
Through the historical events of that period, the author explores the role of Konstantinos Mitsotakis and presents his political activity and its consequences. Based on the family archive and other available sources of the period, her research focuses on the thirty-year activity of Konstantinos Mitsotakis in Crete (1868-1898), starting from the environment that “raised” him and moving on to his political, journalistic and revolutionary activity. The author connects all the pieces of the biography and emphasises on K. Mitsotakis' political activity by presenting his dynamic involvement in the political scenery and his views about state organisation and at the same time she describes political and social life in Crete.
The publication contains a few words by the Chairman of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos”, the Metropolitan of Kisamos and Selino, Irineos Galanakis and the former Prime Minister Konstantinos K. Mitsotakis, who is the grandson of Konstantinos Mitsotakis. The preface is written by the academic Konstantinos I. Despotopoulos and the introduction by the historian Eleni Gardika Katsiadaki.
